CHANGES TO MY STUDY PROGRAMME
It is pretty hard to reflect about this matter because I got into college when the pandemic started so I haven´t had my subjects as they correspond nor have I experienced university life. Besides, my career demands a lot of praxis and physical interaction, which is being pretty much impossible to access with the pandemic's limitations.
Even on top of this, I've had classmates this semester that took a year off that have shared with me differences that they found between what they were being taught and what is currently being taught to us. So it happens to be that my class is missing a lot or getting the knowledge very disorderly.
I had subjects like "Actuación y teatralidad" and "El actor y el colectivo" on my first semester, and my classmates that took a year off told me that subjects of this semester like "Creación de personaje" and "Puesta en escena" are very much like those other courses, when they're supposed to be very different. Another example, I'm supposed to be taugh realism in "Puesta en escena" but that's not hapening at all. So I don't know when I'm going to be taught those things that I've being missing, probably never because there´s no time. I would want to have a conversation with the race boss about this but I know that it is most likely because of the hours of the program that have being cut due to the pandemic(which is also why the workload it's being pretty comfortable most of the time).
Although, I have to highlight that this semester it's being better that the others because even if I'm not having the full learning I've being able to have a face-to-face subject and that makes things a lot more viable.
My department is not very big and the lack of space it's being one of the reasons why the face-to-face classes took so long. So that could be one of my complainings. Related to it, I think that there is not enough space for lunch, I mean, there is a kind of patio with a couple tables but it could be a more comfortable area. Although, I have to admit that I haven had the opportunity to really know every single part of the DETUCH so it is not impossible that there is a better area that I don't know about.
About the technology, I wish I wouldn't have to use it as much as I have being having to. I've had to record myself for my exams and learn a little bit about editing. And, I mean, it's good to learn something new and unexpected, but unfortunately that also means a lack of theater characteristics that are needed to learn drama.
I have an exam soon, my class is doing a play. And during the rehearsals for that I got to appreciate for the first time the use of screens while theatre acting. I also learned one thing or two about lighting. And, I know that my department doesn´t have a lot of money and needs a lot of material, so, even though I haven´t experience the need on this part of the learning (probably because It hasn´t really being my job, but theatrical design) I think that it is probably there.
I don´t really know what to say about the teaching methods. Everything changed with the pandemic and not necessarily on a positive way. I just have one face-to-face subject, it is very practical. And I can say that the teaching method is very different from what I could appreciate during online classes, there is more feedback and it is also more precise and effective. About my other classes, maybe the more theoretical ones, I can speculate that wouldn´t be very different face-to-face. Overall, I can say that I'm satisfy with this matter, it's just that actual presence is an important issue for my career.
It's so sad to read that we all have holes in our learning because of the pandemic :-( I hope you can learn the things that have been left out, like in leveling classes or something like that <3
